This has to be seen to be believed. Every evening for a week, with the big night: Good Friday. This is a one-of-a-kind display of tradition, music, culture, theatre and religion. Revolving around two gorgeously decorated floats - one for the Virgin and one a scene from Christ's passion, carried by 40 men and accompanied by locals/Penitents in Medieval dress, holding flame-lit torches, banners, crucifixes and statues of Saints, to the solemn sound of coronets, drums and Sanctus bells. It takes place in every town in Ibiza, but Dalt Villa/Ibiza old town is the 'must see'. The mix of architecture and parade, make one forget that one is living in the 21st Century. It is gloriously Gothic and a little bit forbidding, but at the same time, very moving. A fabulous contradiction to the clubbing, music and modern day theatre that Ibiza is so well known for.
